The entire course takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete. This course can be taken at your own pace. There is a final assessment at the end of this course, which you need to pass with a score of 70% or higher in order to access the evaluation and print your certificate.

Description

A work zone refers to an area where construction, utility work, maintenance, or road work takes place. Oftentimes, work zones have detours, lane changes, or detours.
Work zones can be very dangerous for pedestrians and drivers, but they are especially dangerous for workers. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were a total of 845 work zone fatalities in 2019. In 2020, there were a total of 857 work zone fatalities, 244 commercial motor vehicle-involved crash fatalities, and 156 pedestrian fatalities. Based on these statistics, it’s easy to see why it’s important to make work zones safe. 

The purpose of this training is to make the work zone safer for both highway workers and the traveling public. The best way to do that is to make everyone responsible for safety.

This course is intended for transportation professionals from a variety of positions within local agencies and Tribal governments focused on improving highway safety, especially as it relates to work zones. Topics covered in this course include:
